Year 9

YEAR 9 LEARNING

Students in Year 9 are entering their final year of Middle School. To support the development of responsible decision making and to foster engagement in learning, students in Year 9, for the first time, are able to make choices in relation to some aspects of their study. All students study a core common curriculum and remain together as a Roll Class in these subjects, but make choices in relation to The Arts and Technology subjects they wish to study. In Year 9, students may have a different specialist teacher for each
of their subjects.

The curriculum in Year 9 is organised into year-long subjects and semester-based specialist areas in accordance with the Australian Curriculum expectations.

Students in Year 9 continue in the same Kinship class, further strengthening the relationships with peers and staff which have been developing since Year 7.

The Rite Journey

All students in Year 9 undertake The Rite Journey (TRJ), a program designed to promote self-esteem, responsibility and resilience. The program provides a contemporary ‘rite of passage’ for the students as they journey from childhood to young adulthood over the course of the year. The Rite Journey is taught in gender-based classes with same-gender teacher/guides and takes the place of the Religious Education and Health programs in Year 9.
