YEAR 8 LEARNING


To support their transition and orientation to the Middle School, new students participate in an Orientation Day with their Year 7 peers in Term 4 the preceding year. This will be followed by a Year 8 Activity Day during Term 1 in Year 8 to help students get to know one another and develop a strong sense of connectedness and belonging.

Students will remain with the same Kinship class from the previous year, strengthening their relationships with Kinship Tutors and their older and younger peers.

Students in Year 8 are grouped in a core Roll Class which is taught by a number of specialist staff. As in Year 7,
key teachers will teach English/Humanities and Mathematics/ Science/STEM.

As the students transition to Year 8 they also increase the specialist subjects that are included within the curriculum. Specialist teachers will provide tuition in Health & Physical Education, Art, Music, Drama, Food & Hospitality, Design & Technology and Digital Technologies.   

The curriculum in Year 8 meets with the Australian Curriculum requirements and is organised into year-long compulsory subjects and semester-based specialist subjects. The list of subjects studied at Year 8 are listed below.
