Welcome to Term 4!
This is the final term for the year and a special time for our Year 12s. In the next few weeks, they will complete their time at St Columba College. Many will be finishing assignments and we wish them well as they prepare for exams. This year our Year 12s have been buddies to our Reception students and they have formed relationships, listened to them read, played and supported them. The whole College will farewell the Year 12s at a special assembly on Thursday 2 November and the Receptions will walk the Class of 2023 out of the assembly for the final time. The following day, as per tradition, our staff will cook breakfast for the Year 12s. Following this, families are welcome to join us for a Eucharist at 9:30am. The final celebration is the Graduation Dinner on Thursday 23 November at the Entertainment Centre. Many of our Year 12s have been with us since Reception and I want to thank all families for your support during this time, especially to those who leave us at the end of the year.
In Week 10 of Term 3, our Middle and Senior School students performed The Lion King Jr Musical at the Shedley Theatre. Over 100 students were involved in the production. They participated in six performances over two days and every one of them was outstanding. Congratulations go to every cast member, our brilliant Director, Ms Kerryn Harris, and to all the stage support staff.
On Friday 29 September, a group of St Columba students participated in the Catholic Schools Music Festival at the Adelaide Festival Theatre. The students were part of the 500-plus choir and had practised all year for the event. We thank Mr Luke Walker for leading the choir.
Last weekend, two Year 10 students participated in the National Finals of the Future Problem-Solving Competition. Ms Oliwia Derda and Mr Gerry Barbaro accompanied Ciannah Richards and Tiarna Champion to Brisbane. Tiarna finished third in the national senior division which is an outstanding result. Both girls received the Principal’s Platinum slip this week at our Middle and Senior School Assembly.
Finally, the building development at the Middle School campus has been completed! We have opened the outdoor spaces for the students and the drop off/pickup zone for families. We believe the facility will transform learning for our students and be a place of welcome and inclusion. We look forward to showcasing the new building to the community in the near future.
As we begin this term we pray for peace, safety and respect.
