The Coracle - Term 3, Week 4

As we progress through the school year, I am delighted to share with you the many exciting activities, achievements, and updates from across our vibrant Junior School community. Our students have been engaged in a wide range of learning experiences, and it’s been a pleasure to witness their growth, enthusiasm, and dedication. 

Mid-Year Reception Liturgy with Colin the Bear  

Our Little Columbans recently participated in the Mid-Year Reception Liturgy, where they were each presented with their own ‘Colin the Bear’. This was a truly special event as it marked a significant milestone in their early school journey. It was heartwarming to see the joy on their faces as they received and cuddled their bears. We also extend our gratitude to the parents and caregivers who attended the Liturgy.

Children's University  

Our College is part of the Children's University program. This initiative has encouraged many of our students to engage in extracurricular activities that foster learning and personal growth. We are proud of their enthusiasm and look forward to seeing them continue on this path. Students have had a gown fitting in preparation for the graduation ceremony in Term 4.  

20th Balaklava Eisteddfod Choral Competition 

Our Year 4 and Year 5 students recently participated in the prestigious 20th Balaklava Eisteddfod Choral Competition and was awarded 2nd place in the Choral category. Their hard work, dedication, and talent were evident on stage, and we couldn't be prouder of their performance. 

SCC Art Competition 

Our students had the opportunity to showcase their creativity in the St Columba Art Competition. The submissions were truly impressive, highlighting the incredible artistic talents within our school community. We look forward to sharing the results with you soon. 

Year 2 Potato Olympics  

Our Year 2 students recently took part in the Potato Olympics, a fun and lively event that celebrated sportspersonship and creativity. The day was filled with laughter and excitement as the children engaged in various potato-themed activities. 

R-5 Academic Assembly  

We recently held our R-5 Academic Assembly, where we recognised and celebrated the academic achievements of our students across Year 3 to Year 5. The joy, excitement and pride on their faces as they received their award was fantastic. The Dynamics Choir and Columba Rumba performances were brilliant, with their effort and attitude shining through each performance. It was a wonderful occasion to recognise the hard work and dedication of our students and to encourage them to continue striving for excellence. 

Book Week  

Book Week is just around the corner. We thoroughly enjoyed the Book Fair this week and are looking forward to more upcoming activities that celebrate the joy of reading. Students are invited to dress up as their favourite book characters on Friday 23 August (Week 5). Please stay tuned for more details on how your child can take part in this exciting event. 

Personal Invitation to Open Day R-12  

Finally, we would like to personally invite you and your family to our Open Day on Thursday 22 August, 9am to 10:30am. This will be a fantastic opportunity to walk through the Junior, Middle and Senior School campuses, meet our staff, and learn more about the vibrant learning environment we offer for your child from Reception through to Year 12. We look forward to welcoming you then.

Academic Achievement

Middle School students were recently recognised for their hard work and dedication at the Academic Awards assembly. Certificates were awarded for both Academic Endeavour and Academic Excellence, celebrating students who have shown exceptional effort and those who have achieved outstanding academic results during Semester 1. The event highlighted the importance of perseverance, curiosity, and a commitment to learning. Teachers, families, and peers gathered to applaud the recipients, whose achievements set a positive example for the entire College community.

Planning for 2025

Students across the Middle School have been actively engaging in the subject selection process for the 2025 academic year. This critical step allows students to explore their interests and start planning their educational paths. Teachers and Learning Area Leaders (LALs) are guiding students through their options, providing advice and direction. The process encourages students to think about their future goals and how their choices can align with their aspirations.

Year 9 students attended our Futures and Careers Expo during Week 2, an event designed to introduce them to various career paths and educational opportunities. The expo featured interactive booths, key staff from a wide range of industries, including technology, healthcare, arts, and engineering. Students had the chance to engage with professionals, ask questions, and learn more about the skills and education needed for different careers.

Creativity is Magic!

Middle School students recently showcased their creativity and talent in the SCC Arts Competition. Students submitted pieces from various categories, including Visual Arts, Music and Drama. The competition highlighted the diverse artistic abilities within the student body, with many students to be recognised for their outstanding work. Participation in the SCC Arts Competition encouraged students to express themselves and take pride in their creative achievements.

Open Day – Thursday 22 August

We are excited to invite parents and caregivers to our Open Day on Thursday 22nd August, from 9.00am to 10.30am. This is a wonderful opportunity to explore the Junior, Middle and Senior School campuses, meet our dedicated staff, and learn more about the programs and Student Life activities we offer. SCC Art Competition

The SCC Art Competitions this year saw an extraordinary display of talent and creativity from our students. The exhibition was a feast for the eyes, showcasing a diverse range of artworks that reflected the unique perspectives and artistic abilities of our young artists. Additionally, the celebration of music that accompanied the art display highlighted the multifaceted talents of our students. It was truly a joy to see such a vibrant and dynamic representation of the arts within our school community. Subject Selection

It has been inspiring to witness our Senior School students enthusiastically engaging in the subject selection process this term. The dedication and thoughtfulness with which they have approached choosing subjects that both challenge and excite them are commendable. It is evident that our students are not only seeking to meet academic requirements but are also driven by a genuine passion for learning and personal growth. This proactive approach to their education will undoubtedly pave the way for their future success and fulfillment.

Futures and Careers Expo

Our recent Futures and Careers Expo during Week 2 this term was a resounding success, with an impressive turnout from both students and vendors. The event provided a valuable opportunity for our students to gather information on how their skills align with their career aspirations. Our vendors were particularly impressed by the insightful questions posed by our students and their eagerness to understand the various pathways available to them. The expo has undoubtedly empowered our students with the knowledge and inspiration needed to navigate their future careers with confidence.

Academic Assembly

The Middle and Senior School Academic Assembly was a highlight of the term, as we had the pleasure of recognising and celebrating the academic achievements of our students from Semester 1. Their outstanding grades were a reflection of their commitment to academic excellence and the supportive learning environment fostered by our dedicated staff. It was a delight to see so many students being acknowledged for their efforts and to witness the pride and joy on their faces as they received their awards.
