JUNIOR SCHOOL

The second half of this term has been very busy and exciting in the Junior School. We were delighted to have Andrew Chinn share Harmony Day with us on Thursday 21 March. Andrew led workshops with all the students over the morning, singing songs from various countries and cultures and involving students in many leading roles. The day ended with a concert for the whole Junior School, where students shared what they had been doing in the morning, as well as singing some well-known Andrew Chinn songs.

The Junior School also held their Compassion Market during Week 7. Students thought about other people who were in need and considered what they could make to sell at the market. Students bought from each other’s stalls with the focus on doing something for others, rather than just getting something for themselves. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we raised over $1500 for Project Compassion. Well done, everyone!

During Weeks 9 and 10, we celebrated Holy Week with Easter Liturgies, remembering Palm Sunday when Jesus was welcomed into Jerusalem as a King. A few days later the mood shifted as we recalled the last meal Jesus had with his friends, his arrest and his crucifixion on Good Friday. We joyfully celebrated the resurrection of Jesus at Easter and enjoyed a chocolate Easter egg treat. All Liturgies were led beautifully by our Year 5 students.

MIDDLE AND SENIOR SCHOOL

This term we officially opened the new Middle School building at the College. It was a privilege that the Most Reverend Patrick O’Regan DD Archbishop of Adelaide and The Most Reverend Geoffrey Smith Archbishop of Adelaide were able to be present to bless the building that is dedicated to the education of our students. It was a wonderful time of celebration for the school community.

Christians all over the world have recently celebrated the Easter Season which lasted for eight weeks. At the College we had several Liturgies that emphasised different aspects of the Holy Week story. We began with a R-12 Palm Sunday Liturgy, remembering the story of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. At the end of the week, our two Year 7 Drama classes, taught by Mrs Pudney and Ms Fullgrabe, presented a beautiful Passion Play of the events that led to the crucifixion and the joyful resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The second half of the term continued to be one of learning and events, where students were immersed in different activities showcasing their strengths. The Year 3 and 5 students completed their NAPLAN assessments in Week 8. Every child gave their best effort on each of the days, demonstrating what they had learnt and working diligently. The Easter Liturgies were a time of reflection and contemplation during Holy Week. The Spirituality Squad performed an amazing enactment the Easter story, that was moving and reverent.

The Compassion Markets was a time to ‘give back’ to our community as the staff and students organised different stalls that included bracelet creation, cakes, a sponge throw and lolly bags. It was wonderful to see the pride on the students’ faces as they ran their stall and how engaged they were with what was on offer. Andrew Chinn, a guest performer at the Junior School, was a highlight during Week 8 as he shared his music and faith with the students. They danced and sang with plenty of energy during the performance, as they learnt new songs and heard old favourites, too.

In Week 10 we had the Junior School Sports Carnival. The weather was perfect, and the students competed to the best of their ability in athletic and novelty events. It was fantastic to witness the teamwork and encouragement that students showed to others in their class and other Houses, as well as celebrating the results at each event.

Congratulations to LASHMAR HOUSE for winning the 2024 Sports Carnival Shield and SHORT HOUSE, which won the Spirit Cup.

As we wrap up the term, it’s great to highlight some memorable moments from the past few weeks.

We celebrated the opening of our new Middle School Building on Wednesday 13 March, which was a proud moment for our school community. This modern facility represents our commitment to providing the best learning environment for our students and teachers. It was an honour to have special guests attend the service, including Members of Parliament, the Most Reverend Patrick O’Regan DD Archbishop of Adelaide and The Most Reverend Geoffrey Smith Archbishop of Adelaide.

Our students were tested on their Literacy and Numeracy skills and knowledge during the NAPLAN assessments. We hope their hard work and determination will be reflected in their results. Thank you to Mr Jack Griguol for his leadership and organisation of the assessments.

Throughout the term, we came together for Easter Liturgies, deepening our understanding of the season's significance and foster unity. Middle School reflection days provided students with opportunities for self-discovery and growth. Through activities and discussions, they explored their values and aspirations.

Our recent Sports Carnival was a resounding success, filled with cheers, teamwork, and outstanding athletic performances. Students showcased their talents in various events, fostering a spirit of healthy competition and camaraderie. Congratulations to all participants for making it a memorable and enjoyable day. Special thanks to Miss Abbey Mozuras, Miss Elaine Rouhana and Ms Tamra Symons for their organisation of the event.

Congratulations to SHORT HOUSE, which won both the Sports Day and House Spirit Shield.

As we look ahead to Term 2, let's carry forward the lessons and memories from Term 1. Together, let's nurture kindness, curiosity, and a strong sense of community.

In the bustling life of our Senior School community, the past few weeks have been a whirlwind of activity and excitement across all year levels.

The Year 10 Aquatic Camp was a splash of excitement and learning, providing valuable outdoor experiences and fostering teamwork among peers. Our Year 11s have been soaking up the sun and waves at their Outdoor Education Surf camp, a perfect blend of adventure and learning.

The drama enthusiasts in Year 11 and 12 had their moment to shine with the 'Take the Stage' drama excursion closely followed by the Year 10-12 Art excursion to the SACE show. It was inspiring to see our students embrace creativity and expression on such platforms.

Not to be outdone, the Year 12s embarked on a journey through history with the Society & Culture excursion to Adelaide Gaol, enriching their understanding of society's past and present. Year 12 students also showcased their culinary skills at the Food and Hospitality Cake Decorating Masterclass, a sweet way to celebrate their final year.

The Year 11 Charity Carnival added another layer of fun and camaraderie to the term, showcasing their vibrant spirit along with ensuring that vital funds are raised for local organisations including Anglicare and St Vincent de Paul.

Finally, it has been delightful to see our Year 10 students engage in career discussions, with an eagerness to explore their future paths. Career counselling sessions have been underway, providing valuable guidance and insights to help them make informed decisions about their academic and professional pursuits. As they navigate through these discussions, we are committed to supporting them every step of the way, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary resources and information to embark on their chosen career paths with confidence.

With each activity and event, our students continue to shine, embodying the values of curiosity, resilience, and community that define our school. Here's to many more memorable moments ahead in Term 2!
