Stage 2 English Literary Studies
This course focuses on the skills and strategies of critical thinking needed to interpret texts. Students develop an understanding of the power of language to represent ideas, events, and people in particular ways and of how texts challenge or support cultural perceptions.

Assessment Overview
Responding to Texts (50%)
- Text response essays (x2) focusing on literary devices and themes within the Novel and Drama text studies
- Critical perspectives essay
Creating Texts (20%)
- Transformative Text writing
- Oral Presentation of a persuasive exposition
External Study (30%)
- Examination: Critical Reading (15%)
- Comparative Analysis (15%): A maximum of 1500 words comparing one of the texts studied in class with an individually chosen text.
