The St Columba College Year 8/9 Boys Cricket Team have won this year’s Metro North Pool B State Finals.
Beating Banksia Park International High School at Narnungga (Park 25), in Adelaide’s West Park Lands, in what was the final match to take out the title.
Competing in the Secondary School Sports South Australia (SSSSA) Knockout Cricket competition, the team have been challenging various schools in the Metro North in the lead-up to the state final, held on Monday, 20 March. The team maintained a strong side, contending and victorious in three rounds preceding the final match.
The day belonged to St Columba College, with the boys determined and on course to bat-out the opposition and ride the storm of the early Banksia Park onslaught. The team looked to solidify the middle order in all forms with the bowlers to be praised for their ability to restrict the opposition.
While weather cannot be controlled, the rain set in when St Columba College were 30 runs ahead of the opposition, and the game was called. The result of the match was determined using the Duckworth-Lewis Method, a mathematical formulation designed to calculate the target score for the team batting second in a limited overs cricket match interrupted by weather.
The boys dominated all rounds played in the knockout competition and hold the title prize with honour.
