On Wednesday 3 April, 16 students from the College competed in the ANZ Tennis Hot Shots SAPSASA Playford and Para Districts Schools Competition. The tournament took place at the new Playford Tennis Centre on Main North Road.
Our two teams consisted of the St Columba Allstars - Jack, Marco, James, Matthew, Marc, Matheson, Mantej and Jakob; and, the St Columba Hot Shots - Tate.
The St Columba College teams took to the court to play against 240 Year 3 and 4 students from Elizabeth North Primary School, Elizabeth Downs Primary School, Catherine McCauley School, Craigmore South Primary School and St Thomas More School. The focus on the day was to encourage tennis participation, grow friendships and give students the opportunity to represent their school in a team environment.
Our teams played extremely well, winning all their matches in the morning sessions. This moved the teams into the playoffs after lunch. Both teams played a St Thomas More School team in the semi-finals. The Hotshots lost their game and moved into the third and fourth place playoff. The Allstars won their game and played the other St Thomas More School team in the grand final. The St Columba College Allstars team won the grand final, six games to two. A special mention goes to Marco and Austin who Tennis SA picked as showing excellent sportsmanship on the day.
Congratulations to all the students who participated at the tournament, showing great enthusiasm and team work.
