Principal’s Report: Term 3, Week 3

Dear Parents and Caregivers

In the last Coracle I wrote to you with information regarding the College Strategic Plan 2017-2019. Review and ongoing evaluation is important for a school’s improvement and development. In the past fortnight we have undertaken the following evaluations. I thank 197 parents who completed the Parent Satisfaction Survey in the past fortnight. We have also surveyed 90 teachers regarding School Organisation and Climate this term. On Wednesday we participated in an External Process with Steve Byrne (Principal Sacred Heart College), Paddy McEvoy (Principal St Aloysius College) and Steve Genesin (Principal Consultant CEO). The purpose of the visit was to share with the panel our progress in the past 18 months. The panel had the opportunity to listen to staff and students and provide feedback about our next steps. I am delighted how parents, staff and students have embraced the review processes this term and I will be sharing information with the community in the near future.

It was wonderful to meet with the Prefects last week. We discussed a number of issues and their plans for this term. They are positive young people and I was impressed with their ongoing commitment to the College.

Last week we held the 3 Way Learning Conferences across the school. While participation by families was low I emphasise with parents/caregivers the open invitation to always make a call, email or make a time to meet with a teacher if you should have any concern this semester.

This term is an important one for Year 10 and 11 students as they make their Subject Selections for next year. Soon we will be holding a counselling session with a staff member for both the student and their parent/caregiver to check subjects and ensure students have selected subjects that match interest, learning style and future pathway. I ask that parents/caregivers attend this meeting.

By now the community would have received information regarding the renaming of the George House. If a parent would like to join the working party to select a new name, could you please contact me as soon as possible.

The College Council has commenced its work for the next 12 months. If there is a member of the community who would be interested in joining the College Council, could you please contact me in the first instance.

I hope the next fortnight goes well for you and your family.

Ms Leanne Carr Principal
