As its name would suggest, Broadway is a wide street in New York City that runs the full length of Manhattan. It is the part between the famous 42nd street and 53rd street, including Times Square, and considered the home of the American theatre industry. It is where Year 9 student, Montana Vincent, dreams of one day performing under the bright lights.
A passion for musical theatre, Montana has been studying dance since a very young age and for the past six years has performed in various musicals with the Adelaide Youth Theatre.
With a passion to perform, her experience and confidence on stage has recently provided her with the opportunity to represent Australia as a member of the Australian Youth Performing Arts Team.
Montana headed over to the USA in January to take part in a Junior Theatre Festival in Atlanta. Performing in ‘Sister Act Jnr’, Montana and her team joined a combined cast of performers from the USA and performed for over 6000 people.
Provided with many opportunities on her performance trip, Montana also auditioned for the cast in an iTheatrics Choreography DVD, where students perform for an instructional choreography DVD for international musical theatre. The filming will commence in July with Montana anxiously waiting for a call back.
After spending eight days in Atlanta, Montana and her musical theatre group visited New York City to experience Broadway. Spending 10 days in ‘The Big Apple’, she had the amazing opportunity to watch seven Broadway musicals and attend a ‘meet and greet’ with songwriters from ‘The Greatest Showman’.
Broadway shows are one of the most popular tourist attractions in New York City with many people believing the theatrical productions on Broadway are the best in the world. Montana’s dream of being “in the lights” is one-step closer and we wish her all the best with her future aspirations.
