The positive outcomes of learning outdoors are phenomenal. Not only is it a refreshing change of pace from the classroom, it also increases students’ physical, mental and social health.
The new Stage 1 Outdoor Education course at St Columba College is off to a roaring start. Students have been completing a Group Dynamics Unit in preparation for the time away together at camp. They have learnt about the elements of effective group functioning and the roles people play in a group. Students have completed a range of Group Adventure Initiative Tasks where they were required to work together to complete the challenge. These included the Spiders Web, Playground Pull and Walk the Plank.
